Is the Note out of the bag already?

Last week we got word that Samsung could be prepping an 8-inch version of its Galaxy Note phablet. The idea was that this device would go head-to-head with Apple’s recently released iPad Mini, which measures in at 7.9 inches in size. SamMobile last week reported that Samsung would release both a Wi-Fi only version and a Wi-Fi/3G model for computing on the go and that it would introduce these devices at Mobile World Congress.

Samsung yesterday confirmed that it would unveil the 8-inch Note at MWC in February. Lucky for us, we don’t have to wait until MWC kicks off next month before we can get a peek at this 8-inch note. SamMobile, the same site that brought us the first snippet of news on this new Note, posted the picture below to go with the specs it published last week. The image is water-marked with the Twitter handle @clasificatearg, which is linked to a private Twitter account.

Samsung has not yet verified the authenticity of the photo, so we’ll have to wait until MWC rolls around (or for more leaked photos) to be sure. We also don’t know if Samsung hopes to market this Note as a tablet as opposed to a phone. Though the previous Note has been dubbed a ‘phablet,’ it is definitely a cell phone. We can’t imagine folks using the Note 8.0 in a similar manner, though.

In case your memory needs jogging, rumored specs for this device include an 8-inch 1280 x 800 TFT (Super Clear LCD) display, a 5MP camera mounted on the back, a 1.3MP camera on the front, and a 4600 mAh battery. It’s also said to pack 2 GB or RAM, and either 16 or 32 GB of internal storage. A microSD card slot will expand storage up to an additional 32 GB. On the connectivity front, the 8-inch Galaxy Note will offer Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0, 802.11 b/g/b/n and A-GPS. GSM network coverage will include EDGE (850/900/1800/1900) HSPA+21.1 Mbps, and HSUPA 5.76 Mbps (850/900/1900/2100). The operating system of choice will be Google’s Android 4.2 “Jelly Bean”.

We’ll keep you posted on details regarding launch and pricing.
